  The Woodlands



The Woodlands, Texas (Harris and Conroe Counties) is located along I-45, about 25 miles north of Houston in Montgomery county. Nestled in 27,000 acres of forest, The Woodlands is one of the original master planned communities in the nation and is located just minutes from Bush Intercontinental Airport. From its inception in 1974, The Woodlands has held steadfast to its concept of blending nature with today's modern conveniences and creating a lifestyle unequalled almost anywhere in America and offers homes in virtually every style and price range. It's known for the exemplary schools, plentiful recreation and is a major employment center. In 1990 The Woodlands numbered 29,205 inhabitants

Community Life
There's always a warm welcome waiting for you at The Woodlands Town Center. Home to over 400 shops, restaurants, hotels and entertainment venues, The Woodlands is a thriving business district and a regional destination. Sports, entertainment, dining, parks and pathways are all nearby. There is always something exciting to discover in the Woodlands, whether at its magnificent outdoor amphitheater - The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion either of its two Country Clubs - The Woodlands Country Club, The Club at Carlton Woods, six award-winning golf courses, nearly 100 parks or The Woodlands Waterway®.

The Woodlands community is committed to maintaining its high quality of life through community service organizations that organize resident programs such as The Woodlands Watch and provide resident forums for community involvement. Other community groups organize the Fourth of July parade, the First Night™ New Year's Eve celebration, National Night Out, art shows, flea markets, Earth Day, and dozens of other neighbor-to-neighbor events.

Schools
Exemplary! Blue Ribbon! Outstanding! These are among the designations earned by and bestowed on public schools of all grade levels (K-12) located in The Woodlands. All are part of the highly regarded Conroe Independent School District (CISD). Elementary schools feature low student-teacher ratios, hands-on science programs, impressive test score results, and strong parent, community and partnership programs. Nine schools in The Woodlands provide education for grades K through 4, plus one flex school for grades K-6. Another flex school opens in the fall of 2005. Three intermediate schools serve students in grades 5 and 6.

Knox and Branch Crossing Junior High Schools include 7th and 8th grades. The Woodlands High School McCullough Campus for grades 9 and 10, and The Woodlands High School for grades 11 and 12, have strong athletic, fine arts and extracurricular programs as well as exemplary core academic courses. The Woodlands High School is a national Blue Ribbon School awarded by the U.S. Department of Education. Both high school campuses offer a wide choice of electives, clubs, organizations and athletics.

The high school’s academic and athletic teams are consistent winners at regional, state and national levels. Advanced placement students are often able to earn college credit hours at the same time they complete their high school diploma requirements. Parks & Pathways
The Woodlands is verdant with more than 80 parks all linked to over 100 miles of trails and pathways accessible from each community. Parks range in size from small one-acre tot lots, to 14-acre village parks, and over 40 acres of recreational plazas. Parks are located everywhere in the community and feature a mix of amenities that can include swimming pools*, baby pools, basketball courts, playgrounds, play structures, sports fields, picnic areas, pavilions, skateboard parks, and tennis courts.

Hike and bike pathways are for non-motorized use and are located throughout the villages of The Woodlands so residents can enjoy a variety of activities, such as walking, jogging, bicycling and roller-blading. Pathways are also conveniently linked throughout neighborhoods to parks and area shopping centers.
